The use of roller shutters , gates in a home increases the safety taking time of the intruders from the burglary . In addition, reduces heating expenses , reducing heat losses in winter and at night . The usage of the awning shading minimize house excesive heating during summer heat , which implies a reduction of expenses on home cooling . In the case of extreme temperatures rollers can be useful to maintain the room temperature , covering the windows, which have the worst thermal rates in the building.
On the other hand, the roller has its drawbacks:
- Closed blinds during the day damage the vegetation in the house , So it is necessary to open the blinds or lighting up the plants
- Closed blinds during the day inform intruders that no one is at the home
- lack of natural light causes , that there is ” cellar atmosphere ” in the room and the house requires additional heating during transitional periods (spring , autumn) . In the absence of rollers or when it is opened in this case, solar heating is very effective.
To take advantage of roller shutters , awnings and avoid their drawbacks, it is necessary to apply automation, ensuring their proper and logical control considering:
- weather conditions
- time of day
- year season
- temperature in each geographic directions which causes cooling or heating sunshine depending on season of a year
- Awnings automatically musy be closed, when they are not in use to avoid damage in case of strong wind or heavy rain
ExternalManager is a dedicated controller that allows to control the shutters , awnings , gates for the whole house (up to 14 independent motion systems) . In case of more drives CommManager is needed.
ExternalManager as part of a smart home , beyond the standard control functions for shutters , shade awnings, Gates, doors allows automatic control depending on the measured level of analog sensors (analogous to RoomManager’s) . The thresholds for each sensor can be asigned to any system events ExternalManager ‘ a , eg . closing the blinds at too high temperature on measured side of building avoiding excesive heating room.
ExternalManager can be controlled locally from miniature RF remote control with variable code. Remotes have 6 combinations of buttons individually configured for each combination and each button .
Alternatively, instead of ExternalManager CommManager can be used, which has much greater functionality and larger number of sensor inputs , measuring inputs , outputs, implemented security system and has built-in GSM / SMS and ethernet modules for communication .
Motion control of blinds , awnings , gates for the existing architectural design d21 (Murator) .
Design Conditions:
- Blinds in all windows operated independently, managed from the system eHouse
- Control garage door
- Control gate
- Electro – lock gates
- external blocking electrical sockets
- control of the southern window and patios – awnings
- Automatic awnings shading the 3 geographical (south, west, east) directions (independently), opening when the sun heating too much and closing when it doesn’t
- Automatic closing blinds at night and opening during day
- Automatic closing all the blinds when it is extremaly cold
- Automatic closing all the blinds when it is extremaly hot
- Common switches for easy control some functions: open / close your garage door , opening gate , opening / closing blinds , unlock / lock the external sockets

ExternalManager and CommManager has support for blinds, Gatews , awnings in Somfy standard (with built-in protection for drives) . Each drive roller , awnings , gate is controlled by two lines . The activity of the shutter depends on signal on both lines . Short-circuiting first line to common (min 1 sec) shutter , awnings , Gate closes . Shorting the second line to common (min 1 sec) will open the blinds , awnings , Gate . Shorting the two wire line to a common drive causes to stop traffic at the current position .
